Subject: | Community Services Block Grant |
As you know, the Community Services Block Grant Program Law provides guidelines for the apportionment of funds to reduce poverty and to provide for activities to assist low-income participants in obtaining employment, education, housing, emergency assistance, transportation and other necessities. The Community Services Block Grant Program was inadvertently allowed to expire on December 31, 2011. In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to reenact the Community Services Block Grant Program to allow community action agencies, who are established under federal and state law as recipients of public funds, to provide services to low-income individuals to acquire skills for employment and subsidies for housing and education. Community action agencies serve a unique function in the local community. These agencies are designated by counties to serve as the appropriate focal point for community action activities and deserve another five years of existence. |
