Subject: | Resolution honoring Casimir Pulaski, Polish nobleman, solider and military commander, commonly known as the “Father of the American Cavalry” |
In the near future I intend to introduce a resolution honoring the life, bravery, and contributions of Casimir Pulaski, Polish nobleman, solider and military commander, commonly known as the “Father of the American Cavalry.” In 1777, Casimir Pulaski, a successful military commander and member of the Polish nobility, was impressed with the ideals of a new nation struggling to be free, and moved to America to support the colonies’ fight against England in the American Revolution. On September 11, 1777, Pulaski fought for the first time in America at Brandywine Creek, and distinguished himself as a brilliant military tactician. In 1778, Pulaski, who became known as the "Father of the American Cavalry," and his men aided General George Washington during the Battle of Germantown, and together they secured victory for American forces. Later, in October 1779, Pulaski and his unit engaged the British again in the Siege of Savannah where he was gravely injured and died several days later on October 15, 1779, at age 34. To this day, Pulaski’s heroism and commitment to our country remains unforgotten. Across our nation, Americans continually recognize Casimir Pulaski for his contributions for our freedom; therefore, please join me in honoring the life and bravery of Casimir Pulaski and recognize his fight for American independence. |
