Subject:	Co-sponsor: Private lateral sewer line improvement/repair legislation

When we return for Session, I will be re-introducing House Bill 1557 (2011-12 Session) which deals with sewage line maintenance. As you may be aware, a major cause of wet weather overflows relates to deteriorating private lateral sewage lines draining into the public sewer system. In order to provide public funding to assist homeowners in repairing these malfunctioning laterals, this bill would allow municipalities to use public funds for the improvement, extension, repair or rehabilitation of private lateral sewage lines connected to public sewer systems where the municipality or municipal authority determines that such activities will benefit the public sewer system.
