Subject: | Flood Disaster Assistance Package (Former HB 1837, 1836, and 1838) |
I will be reintroducing three (3) separate pieces of legislation, which are designed to assist the Commonwealth and its citizens with flood disaster assistance. As you are aware, Pennsylvania is the most flood prone state in the nation, therefore, I feel that it is paramount that the Commonwealth be prepared to assist local governments and residents with flood mitigation projects and post disaster assistance programs. These bills have passed the House in past session in substantially the form as reintroduced. |
Introduced as HB154
Description: | House Bill 1837 creates the “Flood Hazard Mitigation Act” which is designed to enhance storm water management and flood mitigation projects by empowering local governments and the Commonwealth to acquire properties in flood prone areas. Introduced as HB152
Description: | House Bill 1838 creates a small disaster assistance fund program, which will provide low interest loans to homeowners and businesses which are affected by small-scale disasters which do not meet federal government thresholds. As well, this program will provide grants to municipal governments for infrastructure repairs which are needed as a result of a declared small-scale disaster. This program would be funded via the $150 million bond authorization in my second piece of legislation Previous Cosponsors: CALTAGIRONE, CLYMER, EVERETT, GIBBONS, GOODMAN, HENNESSEY, MAJOR, MICOZZIE, MURT, O'NEILL, RAPP, READSHAW, and SCAVELLO |
