MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 9, 2013 11:33 AM
From: Representative Thomas H. Killion
To: All House members
Subject: Private Residential Rehabilitative Institutions (former HB 201)

In the near future, I am planning to reintroduce legislation to afford Private Residential Rehabilitative Institutions and their staffs the same protections afforded to other educational institutions under Title 18, the Crimes Code.

Specifically, Section 2702 (relating to Aggravated Assault) and Section 3503 (relating to Criminal Trespass) of the Crimes Code call for enhanced protections and/or penalties when crimes are committed at "any elementary or secondary publicly-funded educational institution, any elementary or secondary private school licensed by the Department of Education or any elementary or secondary parochial school."

My legislation would add Private Residential Rehabilitative Institutions to the list so they would have parody with other educational settings in regards to protection under the Crimes Code.

Please contact Alison Hagler in my office at ahagler@pahousegop.com if you have any questions regarding this legislation.

Introduced as HB474
