Subject: Moratorium on State Forest Leasing
 
When we return to session, I intend to introduce legislation that would impose an moratorium on additional leasing of State Forest lands for the purpose of natural gas drilling, exploration, or production. The language of this bill will be similar to an Executive Order (2010-05) signed by Governor Rendell.

With 700,000 acres of state forest land currently subject to oil and gas development, it is imperative that we protect the remaining acreage from this intensely industrial activity.

The remaining 800,000 acres contain significant environmental, recreational and ecotourism value that may be jeopardized by further leasing of state forest land.
