Elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in a special election Oct. 1, 2002, Senator Pileggi is serving his third consecutive term. He was elected to the position of Majority Leader in November 2006. Senator Pileggi is chairman of the Rules and Executive Nominations Committee, and a member of the Appropriations Committee. He is also a member of the Legislative Reapportionment Commission, which is mandated by the PA Constitution to redraw legislative districts for the House of Representatives and the State Senate following the Federal decennial census. Senator Pileggi is the former Chairman of the Senate's Urban Affairs and Housing Committee. A graduate of Archmere Academy (1975), St. Joseph’s University (A.B. in economics, 1979), and Villanova School of Law (J.D., 1982), Senator Pileggi is the former mayor of the City of Chester. Senator Pileggi has received numerous honors and awards, including most recently the Neumann University's Presidential Humanitarian Award-2011; Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades' Award for Excellence in Community Service-2010; PA Freedom of Information Coalition Award-2010; Chester Police Athletic League Legislator Award-2009; Benjamin Franklin Medal for Distinguished Achievement-2008; PA Newspaper Association Freedom of Information Act-2008; American Red Cross David Henderson Humanitarian Award-2007; and the Coalition of Charter Schools Trailblazer Award-2007.
