A RESOLUTION
Designating May 1, 2017, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign
Wars of the United States is conducting its annual "Loyalty Day"
program on the grounds of the State Capitol on May 1, 2017; and
WHEREAS, In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the
act of July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529, 72 Stat. 369), which
designates the first day in May of each year as "Loyalty Day";
and
WHEREAS, "Loyalty Day" is set aside as a special day for
reaffirming loyalty to the United States and recognizing
American freedom; and
WHEREAS, The President of the United States annually issues a
proclamation calling on officials to proudly display the flag of
the United States on all government buildings on this special
day; and
WHEREAS, Citizens and elected officials are encouraged to

observe "Loyalty Day" in schools and other appropriate places;
and
WHEREAS, In the post-9/11 world, it is fitting that the
residents of this Commonwealth pause on "Loyalty Day" to reflect
on the privileges of freedom, democracy and unmatched
opportunity that we enjoy in the United States; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 1, 2017, as "Loyalty
Day" in Pennsylvania, proudly joining the Department of
Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States in
its observance and commend the department for its continued
service to our nation and this Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Pennsylvania State Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Thomas A.
Brown on May 1, 2017, at the "Loyalty Day" program conducted by
the Department of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
United States on the grounds of the State Capitol.
