A RESOLUTION
Designating March 20, 2017, as a day of remembrance for all
highway workers employed by the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission who
have sacrificed their lives in service to the Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, On March 20, 2016, two Pennsylvania Turnpike
employees were murdered at the Fort Littleton Interchange in an
apparent robbery of the Pennsylvania Turnpike; and
WHEREAS, Since 1940, more than 30 Pennsylvania Turnpike
employees lost their lives while performing their duties along
the nation's first super highway; and
WHEREAS, Since 1970, 86 Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation employees have died in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, The duties and responsibilities of highway workers
in construction work zones, maintenance work zones, inspection
work zones and toll plazas are critical to providing a safe,
reliable and interconnected transportation system in
Pennsylvania; and
