A RESOLUTION
Commending the Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology for its efforts
to educate Pennsylvanians about the importance of having
regular hearing screenings, and recognizing the month of May
2018 as "Better Hearing Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Optimum performance and health of the human body
depends on the ability of individuals to hear and understand
communication and other environmental sounds; and
WHEREAS, Damage to hair cells in the cochlea cause hearing
loss that may be treated by hearing aids or cochlear implants
which improve an individual's ability to hear and understand;
and
WHEREAS, Hearing aids or cochlear implants can drastically
improve an individual's quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Hearing loss is hard to detect due to its slow
progression; and
WHEREAS, Doctors of audiology are licensed professionals
uniquely trained to assess, identify, diagnose and treat hearing
loss; and
WHEREAS, Regular hearing screenings can identify certain
