A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2018 as "School Library Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, School library programs promote literacy and the
enjoyment of reading, viewing and listening; and
WHEREAS, School libraries also provide Pennsylvania's
children with access to information and technology within the
school and links to resources outside the school; and
WHEREAS, Promoting competency in new and developing
technology is an integral part of school library programs; and
WHEREAS, Navigating evolving information and technology is
necessary to successfully complete tasks vital to having a
career and succeeding in life; and
WHEREAS, Librarians play a vital role in teaching students to
become effective users of information and ideas; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-five states have conducted studies showing
that students who attend schools with certified librarians score
better on reading and writing tests than students in schools

without library services; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's school libraries are an important
asset to Pennsylvania's youths as they prepare for a future
characterized by change; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of April 2018
as "School Library Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate express appreciation to those who
work in school libraries and encourage all students to explore
and take advantage of the services offered at school libraries.
