A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of March 2018 as "Eye Donor Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Eye donation allows for the restoration of sight to
recipients whose vision has been affected by injury, disease or
infection; and
WHEREAS, Corneal transplant is one of the most frequently
performed human tissue transplant procedures; and
WHEREAS, Since 1961, more than 1 million corneal transplants
have been performed in the United States, restoring sight to
men, women and children ranging from 9 days of age to 103 years
of age; and
WHEREAS, Corneal transplant has a success rate of 95%; and
WHEREAS, Eye donation follows the same process as organ
donation, and there are very few restrictions on who may donate;
and
WHEREAS, The transplant process depends solely on the
selfless act of eye donation, as there is no substitute for

human cornea tissue; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of March 2018
as "Eye Donor Month" in Pennsylvania.
