A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of March 2018 as "Professional Social Work
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Social workers are committed to enhancing the well-
being of individuals and to helping all individuals,
particularly the most vulnerable and at-risk, meet basic needs;
and
WHEREAS, The national theme for "Social Work Month" in 2018
is: "Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions"; and
WHEREAS, Social workers serve throughout society, including
in government and the military, schools and universities, social
service agencies and health care and mental health
organizations; and
WHEREAS, Social workers assist all individuals and segments
of society in conscious disregard of background or identity; and
WHEREAS, Social workers give veterans and their families
support to transition to civilian life when their service is
done; and

WHEREAS, Social workers help children to grow in safe
environments, families to become healthy and strong and older
adults to live out their days in dignity; and
WHEREAS, Social workers are found in every human and natural
crisis, helping the damaged to heal and the at-risk to
confidently face the most threatening setback; and
WHEREAS, Social workers are change agents who turn everyday
need and risk into policies and practice that strengthen society
through improvements in individual, family and community well-
being; and
WHEREAS, The number of social workers is projected to grow to
more than 649,000 individuals by 2024; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of March 2018
as "Professional Social Work Month" in Pennsylvania in
recognition of social workers and their commitment to
individuals, families and communities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the residents of this Commonwealth be urged to
join the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of
Social Workers in celebration and support of social workers and
the social work profession.
