A RESOLUTION
Designating February 11, 2018, as "PA 2-1-1 Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 is a free service available to 97% of the
residents of this Commonwealth to obtain health and human
services assistance; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of people across the United States and
Canada turn to 2-1-1 for free, confidential referrals and
information every day; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 connects Pennsylvanians in need to health and
human services resources available through government programs
and private and nonprofit organizations in their communities;
and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 has the capability to provide assistance to
communities in times of disaster; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 connects volunteers and donors with
organizations that can leverage resources to meet the needs of
the community; and

WHEREAS, 2-1-1 collects data about information and referral
requests that can be used to inform State and local government,
as well as community service organizations, in assessing needs
and planning services; and
WHEREAS, The 2-1-1 system offers a stable Statewide
infrastructure that can be used in a broad variety of ways to
streamline and enhance the work of State government; and
WHEREAS, The 2-1-1 system eases the burden on Commonwealth
departments by reducing the number of misdirected calls; and
WHEREAS, PA 2-1-1 is the nonprofit organization assigned use
of the 2-1-1 dialing code by the Pennsylvania Public Utility
Commission in order to provide community service information and
respond to referral requests, as currently accomplished through
seven regional programs; and
WHEREAS, The United Way organizations in this Commonwealth
deserve recognition for their role in raising money to provide
for the PA 2-1-1 system; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth made a first-time investment of
$750,000 to the PA 2-1-1 system to provide Pennsylvanians the
resources needed for health and human services information and
referrals; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 11, 2018, as "PA
2-1-1 Day" in Pennsylvania.
