A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of August 6 through 12, 2017, as "YMCA
Advocacy Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has more YMCAs than any other
state in the United States, with 65 associations and 108 branch
locations; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA is a charitable, nonprofit organization
committed to ensuring that no individual will be denied services
or participation in YMCA programs, including child care, day
camps, summer camps or YMCA membership, because of economic
hardship; and
WHEREAS, YMCAs in this Commonwealth have more than 928,000
members and more than 187,000 individuals participating in
programs and services for children, families, teens and older
adults; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA promotes youth development, healthy living
and social responsibility in a variety of programs and services
to more than 8.7% of Pennsylvanians from all ages, backgrounds,

faiths and income levels; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA is the largest child-care service provider
in Pennsylvania, providing more than $11.4 million in child-care
subsidies for one in five children; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA provides long-term and short-term housing
to fight homelessness in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA depends on the outstanding efforts of more
than 34,000 volunteers across this Commonwealth who provide
valuable community services as child-care aides, swim
instructors, tutors, mentors, coaches, chaperones and advocates,
with volunteer hours exceeding $800,000 in value; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA emphasizes and maintains the core values of
honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in all its
operations; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA upholds the standards of accountability,
ethics, responsibility and transparency entrusted upon it by the
public as a charitable organization, standing as leaders of the
nonprofit community; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of August 6
through 12, 2017, as "YMCA Advocacy Week" in Pennsylvania.
