A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of September 2017 as "Realtor Safety
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Realtors play a vital role in their communities by
helping people fulfill their dreams of home ownership; and
WHEREAS, While interacting with the public and selling real
estate, realtors can often be at risk while on the job; and
WHEREAS, Some of the common situations that cause fear among
realtors include open houses, vacant homes, properties that were
unlocked or unsecured or properties that are in remote areas;
and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of Realtors® and its 40
local associations are participating in "Realtor Safety Month"
by committing to ongoing efforts to keep its members and their
clients safe; and
WHEREAS, Many realtors carry self-defense devices such as
pepper spray, a Taser or a noise maker; and
WHEREAS, Members are also encouraged to use smart phone

safety apps to track their whereabouts and alert colleagues in
case of an emergency or at the very least notify a family member
or friend about their location before showing a home; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of September
2017 as "Realtor Safety Month" in Pennsylvania.
