A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of March 2017 as "Professional Social Work
Month" in Pennsylvania and urging residents of this
Commonwealth to join with the Pennsylvania chapter of the
National Association of Social Workers in celebration and
support of social workers and the social work profession.
WHEREAS, Highly trained social workers serve as guides and
lifelines to millions of individuals and families of all
backgrounds and circumstances; and
WHEREAS, The primary mission of the social work profession is
to enhance human well-being and to help meet the basic needs of
all individuals, especially the most vulnerable; and
WHEREAS, Social workers help individuals in every stage of
life to function better in their environments, to improve their
relationships with others and to solve personal and family
problems; and
WHEREAS, Social workers give veterans and their families the
support they deserve to successfully transition to civilian
routines when their service is done; and

WHEREAS, Social workers offer access to mental health
treatment and health care services that comfort and strengthen
vulnerable individuals and their families; and
WHEREAS, Social workers meet the challenge every day of
creating safe and healthy environments so that children have the
opportunity to grow into caring and responsible adults; and
WHEREAS, Social workers define their character by showing
dignity and concern to older adults; and
WHEREAS, Social workers are change agents who turn research
and community need into national priorities; and
WHEREAS, Social workers celebrate the courage, hope and
strength of the human spirit throughout their careers; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of March 2017
as "Professional Social Work Month" in Pennsylvania in
recognition of social workers and their commitment to
individuals, families and communities, and urge residents of
this Commonwealth to join with the Pennsylvania chapter of the
National Association of Social Workers in celebration and
support of social workers and the social work profession.
