A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2017 as "Homecare and Hospice
Month" in Pennsylvania to recognize and show appreciation for
the dedication and contributions of these providers to
enhancing the lives of their patients.
WHEREAS, Homecare and hospice professionals provide an
essential service that many individuals with disabilities or
diseases rely on to live at home with their families, while
remaining a part of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Homecare aides help with activities of daily living
such as remembering to take medications, preparing meals,
transferring from a chair, toilet or bed, bathing, getting
dressed, light housekeeping or transportation to and from
doctor's appointments; and
WHEREAS, Hospice end-of-life care brings together medical
care, pain management and emotional and spiritual support for

terminal patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, Homecare provides skilled services, which includes
nursing care and physical, occupational, speech and respiratory
therapy; and
WHEREAS, Homecare and hospice professionals work side by side
with patients' families involved in their care and take time to
teach the proper techniques; and
WHEREAS, Homecare and hospice professionals in Pennsylvania
provide care to nearly 1 million patients per year or 100
patients every hour; and
WHEREAS, Personal care aide and home health aide jobs are
projected to grow by 70% in the next seven years to accommodate
Pennsylvania's aging population, and this projected growth
reflects the largest employment growth among all occupations in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania hospices provide better quality care
than the national average and Pennsylvania's overall average
score is 93.8% while the national average score is 92.6%;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of November 2017 as "Homecare and Hospice Month" to
recognize and show appreciation for the dedication and
contributions of these providers to enhancing the lives of their
patients.
