MARSHALL, LONGIETTI, PICKETT, WHEELAND, MARSICO, M. QUINN,

MILLARD, CALTAGIRONE, ZIMMERMAN AND WATSON, JUNE 7, 2018

Susquehanna River, as the "2018 River of the Year."

WHEREAS, Since 1983, the Department of Conservation and

Natural Resources and the Pennsylvania Organization for

Watersheds and Rivers recognizes one body of water in this

Commonwealth as the River of the Year; and

WHEREAS, This annual honor highlights the numerous rivers and

streams in this Commonwealth, and recognizes the many dedicated

individuals who fight to protect them; and

WHEREAS, Nominations are based on the needs and successes of

state waterways, as well as celebration plans should the nominee

destination State park encompassing 780 acres, and Loyalsock

Trail, a well-trekked 59-mile trail providing vistas overlooking

the stream below; and

WHEREAS, The Loyalsock Creek provides a cold water habitat

for trout and aquatic life, as well as a natural environment for

the Eastern Hellbender, the largest native amphibian that can

grow more than two feet in length; and

WHEREAS, Public awareness of the Loyalsock's value will be

increased and initiatives along the waterway river will be

underscored by the creek being designated "2018 River of the

Loyalsock Creek, flowing from the Endless Mountain region of

Pennsylvania in Sullivan and Bradford Counties through Lycoming

County to the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, as the "2018

River of the Year."
