A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 2, 2017, as "World Habitat Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has
helped build or repair more than 800,000 houses and has served
more than 9.8 million people around the world; and
WHEREAS, The organization is a nonprofit, ecumenical
Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man,
woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place
to live; and
WHEREAS, The houses built offer simple, decent and affordable
homes to low-income families around the world; and
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity is needed to help eliminate
poverty by providing shelter to those in need; and
WHEREAS, Families left homeless by natural disasters, war and
civil unrest often face dire housing situations as they struggle
to rebuild their lives; and

WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity's Disaster Response program
provides shelter and housing solutions to help these families
recover; and
WHEREAS, Houses are built for people in need, regardless of
race or religion; and
WHEREAS, Volunteers and supporters come from all backgrounds;
and
WHEREAS, The need to continue the effort is apparent given
that nearly 2 billion people around the world are living in slum
housing and more than 100 million people are completely
homeless; and
WHEREAS, Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others
provide vital financial support; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
2, 2017, as "World Habitat Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge
Habitat for Humanity for their outstanding contribution toward
the easing of suffering and the rebuilding of individual and
family lives on "World Habitat Day" 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
representatives, individuals, corporations and faith groups to
continue to support and help build on Habitat for Humanity's
record of success.
