A RESOLUTION
Recognizing September 10, 2017, as "National Grandparents Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The first Sunday after Labor Day is annually
recognized as "National Grandparents Day" in the interest of
strengthening family bonds, honoring family history and
encouraging visits to older relatives who require long-term care
or in-home care; and
WHEREAS, As part of "National Grandparents Day" observances,
children and youths in participating communities are invited to
join in the Forget-Me-Not visitation program that pairs young
volunteers with older adults; and
WHEREAS, The presidential proclamations setting aside the
first observances of "National Grandparents Day" in the late
1970s noted that grandparents and persons who function as
surrogate grandparents provide a link to the near past, connect

generations and "can often reach out past pride and fear of
failure"; and
WHEREAS, The 2016 presidential proclamation characterizes
grandparents as "our heroes, our confidantes, and our fiercest
advocates"; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
September 10, 2017, as "National Grandparents Day" in
Pennsylvania.
