A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of August 2017 as "Pennsylvania Produce
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth's vegetable industry contributes
to the economy of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, For every $100 spent at a farmers market, $62 stays
in the local economy and $99 stays in the State; and
WHEREAS, Three thousand nine hundred fifty farm families
manage approximately 49,400 acres that produce more than 280,000
tons of vegetables; and
WHEREAS, Vegetables are both delicious and nutritious,
providing important vitamins, fiber and other dietary components
that are essential to a healthy, balanced diet; and
WHEREAS, Health authorities have long encouraged increased
consumption of vegetables for good nutrition and disease

prevention; and
WHEREAS, Fresh Pennsylvania vegetables are available in
abundant supply and top quality at community farmers' markets,
roadside farm markets and supermarkets throughout this
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of August 2017 as "Pennsylvania Produce Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize this
Commonwealth's abundant supply of "PA Preferred" fresh and
processed vegetable products and the industry's contributions to
the economy and health of this Commonwealth.
