INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,

A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2017 as "Motorcycle Safety and
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The safety of all Pennsylvania motorists is an issue
of enduring consequence; and
WHEREAS, Motorcyclists have all of the same rights and
privileges as any motor vehicle driver on the roadway; and
WHEREAS, During "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month" and
throughout the year, drivers of all other vehicles and all other
road users are reminded to safely "share the road" with
motorcyclists and to be extra alert to keep motorcyclists safe;
and
WHEREAS, During "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month,"
Pennsylvanians are encouraged to spread the word about
increasing motorcyclists' safety, support and enhance motorcycle

safety awareness programs and enjoy the use of motorcycles while
practicing utmost safety; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's economy benefits from nearly 400,000
registered motorcycles and more than 850,000 licensed motorcycle
operators, all of whom are required to keep their motorcycles
inspected and obey laws relating to operator safety and
equipment; and
WHEREAS, Along with statistics on ownership and ridership,
the Department of Transportation reports that 3,447 motorcycle
accidents occurred in this Commonwealth in 2016, resulting in
192 fatalities; and
WHEREAS, Despite inevitable incidents, motorcycle operators
continue to promote highway safety and encourage other motor
vehicle operators to recognize and participate in motorcycle
safety training; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the month of May, the Pennsylvania
Motorcycle Safety Program, Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward
Education of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Motorcycle
Dealers Association are continuing their advocacy of motorcycle
safety; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of May 2017 as "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania.
