A RESOLUTION
Designating May 15, 2017, as "Trauma Registrars Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Each accredited trauma center in Pennsylvania is
required to have a trauma registrar; and
WHEREAS, The trauma registrar's primary role is to abstract
data into the trauma center's trauma registry, which is an
important management tool composed of a file of uniform data
elements that describe the injury, event, demographics, pre-
hospital information, diagnosis, care and outcomes and costs of
treatment of injured patients; and
WHEREAS, The trauma registrar also engages in other
processes, such as report generation, data analysis and research
assistance; and
WHEREAS, The trauma registrar is a vital and integral part of
the trauma team, the overall performance improvement process at
a trauma center and the public health; and

WHEREAS, Trauma registrars must abstract data in compliance
with the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation guidelines, as
well as the National Trauma Data Bank guidelines; and
WHEREAS, Trauma registrars come from diverse backgrounds,
such as nursing, medical records, computer science and medical
informatics, among others; and
WHEREAS, Trauma registrars must be continuous learners and
attend courses such as the American Trauma Society's Trauma
Registrar Course or an equivalent provided by a state trauma
program and the Association of the Advancement of Automotive
Medicine's Injury Scaling Course; and
WHEREAS, A certifying examination is available though the
sponsorship of the American Trauma Society's Registrar
Certification Board, leading to the designation of certified
specialist in trauma registries; and
WHEREAS, It is important to acknowledge that high-quality
data begins with high-quality data entry and it is the trauma
registrar who is responsible for performing this task;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 15,
2017, as "Trauma Registrars Day" in Pennsylvania.
