INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
APRIL 27, 2017
A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2017, as "Nurses Week"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12
each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;
and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 217,000 registered nurses,
including approximately 51,000 licensed practical nurses and
15,500 advanced practice registered nurses, which makes nursing
the largest licensed health care profession in this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is the
Statewide association representing the interests of professional
registered nurses; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the Pennsylvania State Nurses

Association has been essential in advocating, leading, educating
and connecting nurses to improve health for patients for more
than 114 years; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working
diligently to create a healthier Commonwealth by relying on
increasing the delivery of nursing care through primary and
preventive health care; and
WHEREAS, The care provided by nurses in this Commonwealth is
the primary component to a successful health care delivery
system; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of May 6 through 12, 2017, as "Nurses Week" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join the
Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and other nursing
organizations in recognizing the selfless service of
Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall importance of quality
nursing care.
