A RESOLUTION
Honoring the memory of law enforcement officers who gave their
lives in the line of duty in this Commonwealth and
recognizing the memorial service in their honor at the
Pennsylvania State Museum in the City of Harrisburg on May 8,
2017.
WHEREAS, Police Officer Scott Leslie Bashioum, Trooper Landon
E. Weaver and Patrolman Edward Wehe made the ultimate sacrifice
in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, On November 10, 2016, Police Officer Scott Leslie
Bashioum, of the Canonsburg Borough Police Department, was shot
and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a
residence in Canonsburg Borough, Washington County; and
WHEREAS, Officer Bashioum was approaching the residence with

his partner when the male subject shot at and seriously wounded
the two officers; and
WHEREAS, The subject shot and killed his pregnant wife before
committing suicide; and
WHEREAS, Both officers were immediately taken to Canonsburg
Hospital where Officer Bashioum succumbed to his wounds; and
WHEREAS, Officer Bashioum was a United States Air Force
veteran and had served with the Canonsburg Borough Police
Department for seven years; and
WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife and four children; and
WHEREAS, On December 30, 2016, Trooper Landon E. Weaver of
the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop G, was shot and killed
while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a residence
in Juanita Township, Huntingdon County; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Weaver was investigating a violation of a
protective order by a subject who had been recently released
from jail on bail; and
WHEREAS, The next morning, members of the Pennsylvania State
Police located the man who fatally shot Trooper Weaver and the
suspect was shot and killed when he pulled out a gun; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Weaver had served with the Pennsylvania
State Police for one year and is survived by his wife; and
WHEREAS, On November 5, 2013, Patrolman Edward Wehe suffered
a fatal heart attack shortly after clearing the scene of a
protest at the Delaware County Prison; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Wehe had been dispatched to the prison to
assist in removing the protesters who had not obtained the
proper permits to assemble; and
WHEREAS, After Patrolman Wehe was able to clear the scene, he
went to a local restaurant where he ran into his daughter and

while speaking with her, suddenly collapsed; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Wehe's daughter immediately initiated CPR
until medics arrived and he was transported to Riddle Memorial
Hospital where he passed away; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Wehe was a United States Navy veteran,
served with the Delaware County Courthouse and Park Police
Department for 18 years and also served as a part-time officer
with the Marcus Hook Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Wehe is survived by his daughter,
granddaughter, fiancée and brother; and
WHEREAS, "National Police Memorial Day" is held on May 15
each year; and
WHEREAS, The week containing May 15 is celebrated each year
as "National Police Week"; and
WHEREAS, On October 1, 1962, Joint Resolution 730 of the 87th
Congress of the United States was signed, authorizing the
President of the United States to proclaim May 15 of each year
as "Peace Officers Memorial Day"; and
WHEREAS, Twenty years passed before the first "National
Police Memorial Day" was recognized May 15, 1982; and
WHEREAS, May 15 continues to be observed annually in memory
of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the
line of duty; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Lodge of the Fraternal Order
of Police presents the annual memorial service in this
Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
memories of Police Officer Scott Leslie Bashioum, Trooper Landon
E. Weaver and Patrolman Edward Wehe who gave their lives in the
line of duty in this Commonwealth; and be it further
