A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2017 as "Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Animal welfare in the United States was forever
changed in 1866 when the American Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded by animal rights activist
Henry Bergh; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA protects and assists animals in need and
promotes their humane care and treatment; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA has championed landmark anticruelty laws
and worked diligently to ensure their enforcement; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA also tirelessly supports local communities
in their fight against animal cruelty; and
WHEREAS, Each April, the ASPCA celebrates its many victories
on behalf of animal welfare; and
WHEREAS, "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" trumps all
