A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 14 through 20, 2017, as "National
Nursing Home Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The men and women now residing in Pennsylvania's
more than 700 nursing homes fought our wars, labored in our
factories and planted the seeds that built our strong
communities; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania nursing homes, on average, are more
than 91% occupied; and
WHEREAS, More than 81,000 nursing home residents are a living
testament to our history and a special treasure to our
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The residents of this Commonwealth residing in
nursing homes have contributed immeasurably to the heritage,
success and growth of our communities; and

WHEREAS, Nursing homes across this Commonwealth are holding
events in observance of "National Nursing Home Week" guided by
this year's national theme "Spirit of America"; and
WHEREAS, This year's theme highlights the bond between staff
and older adults and individuals who receive therapies or have
developmental disabilities; and
WHEREAS, "National Nursing Home Week" begins on Mother's Day,
May 14, and ends on May 20, 2017; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of May 14 through 20, 2017, as "National Nursing Home Week"
in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge
Pennsylvanians to honor the elderly and disabled residents of
nursing homes by visiting or volunteering at a local nursing
home and by bringing good cheer to the residents and
appreciation to the staff that care for our most vulnerable
citizens.
