AN ACT
Designating a bridge on that portion of State Route 980 over the
Chartiers Creek in Canonsburg Borough, Washington County, as
the Officer Scott L. Bashioum Memorial Bridge.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Officer Scott L. Bashioum Memorial Bridge.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Scott L. Bashioum was born on January 27, 1964, to
Leslie C. and Bobbette J. Dzaack Bashioum in Upper St. Clair
Hospital.
(2) After graduating from Burgettstown High School, Mr.
Bashioum joined the United States Air Force where he served
during the Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom.
(3) After 29 years of service, he retired from the

United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant.
(4) In 2009, Scott L. Bashioum joined the Canonsburg
Police Department.
(5) In addition to his career in law enforcement,
Officer Bashioum also served as an assistant chief for the
Slovan Fire Department, Company 18, where he earned lifetime
membership honors.
(6) On November 10, 2016, at the age of 52, Officer
Bashioum tragically lost his life in the line of duty while
protecting and serving his community with the Canonsburg
Police Department.
(7) At the time of his passing, Officer Bashioum was a
seven-year veteran of the Canonsburg Police Department.
(8) The community also pays tribute to the following
individuals, who were affected by and acted to help during
the tragic events of November 10, 2016:
(i) Dalia Sabae, who lost her life while five months
pregnant.
(ii) Officer James Saieva of the Canonsburg Police
Department and the partner of Officer Bashioum, who was
wounded in the line of duty.
(iii) Officer Donald Cross of the Canonsburg Police
Department, who risked his life to save Officer Bashioum
and Officer Saieva.
(iv) Officer John Holt of the Cecil Township Police
Department and Sergeant Matt Collins of the Peters
Township Police Department, who both displayed incredible
bravery during these tragic events.
(b) Designation.--The bridge located on that portion of
State Route 980 over the Chartiers Creek in Canonsburg Borough,

Washington County, is hereby designated the Officer Scott L.
Bashioum Memorial Bridge.
(c) Signs.--The department shall erect and maintain
appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to traffic
in both directions on the bridge.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
