AN ACT
Amending Title 35 (Health and Safety) of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes, in volunteer firefighters, further
providing for use of funds of a volunteer firefighters'
relief association.
The General Assembly finds that the safe operation of a fire
or emergency vehicle is of paramount concern, both for a
firefighter riding in the fire or emergency vehicle and for the
public at large. Safe operation of a fire or emergency vehicle
is increased when the operator is the holder of a commercial
driver's license. Therefore, the General Assembly declares that
the provision of aid to defray the cost of obtaining or renewing
a commercial driver's license is in the best interest of this
Commonwealth.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 7416(f) of Title 35 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a paragraph to read:

(f) Use.--Funds of any volunteer firefighters' relief
association may be spent:

(18) To defray the cost of obtaining or renewing a
commercial driver's license under 75 Pa.C.S. Ch. 16 (relating
to commercial drivers) for a volunteer firefighter who is a
resident of this Commonwealth to operate a fire or emergency
vehicle registered to the fire department or municipality.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
