A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2016 as "Adoption Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Every year, hundreds of children in Pennsylvania
find themselves in need of a home and a safe and nurturing
environment; and
WHEREAS, The family is the foundation of any society and
children need the permanent love, care and protection of a
family to grow into healthy and productive adults; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, there were more than 2,500 children in this
Commonwealth waiting to be adopted; and
WHEREAS, For children waiting to be adopted in this
Commonwealth, the average length of stay in foster care is more
than three years; and
WHEREAS, The average age of Pennsylvania's adopted children
is approximately six years of age, with research showing that
for youth over nine years of age, the likelihood of being

adopted drops significantly; and
WHEREAS, The collaboration of both public and private
adoption agencies should be recognized for their commitment to
the needs of children throughout this Commonwealth; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of November
2016 as "Adoption Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
