A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of October 23 through 29, 2016, as "Explore
PA Outdoors Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's diverse nature and beauty provide a
perfect setting for outdoor activities; and
WHEREAS, There are so many different outdoor activities that
Pennsylvania offers, including hunting, fishing, boating, all-
terrain vehicle riding, trapping, horseback riding, biking,
hiking, camping and the observing of birds, wildlife and more;
and
WHEREAS, One of the most popular outdoor activities in
Pennsylvania is hunting, with millions of acres allocated for
hunting game provided on both private and public land, and with
the most sought-after animals in Pennsylvania being the white-
tailed deer, the black bear and the wild turkey; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's immense network of waterways provides
its residents with great fishing locations and more than 85,000
miles of streams and rivers and 4,000 inland lakes and ponds

covering 160,000 acres; and
WHEREAS, Fishing events are held throughout this State on a
year-round basis, encouraging Pennsylvania families and children
to join a fun activity that also has a positive impact on the
environment; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's successful trout-stocking program
ensures that Pennsylvania waters have an abundance of trout year
round, with the largest restocking completed before trout season
begins in April; and
WHEREAS, The Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania is one of the
most popular hiking locations in the world, and this
Commonwealth has a vast variety of State parks where visitors
can see waterfalls and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, There are 120 State parks in Pennsylvania, all of
which are free and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania State parks preserve priceless historic
sites, maintain the State's natural beauty and provide a wide
range of outdoor activities for all to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Game Commission owns and manages,
for wildlife and recreation, nearly 1.5 million acres of State
game lands throughout this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Lawful hunting and trapping are permitted on State
game lands during open seasons; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is bursting with so many diverse
species of flora and fauna, as well as a variety of unique
ecosystems allowing for phenomenal opportunities for bird and
wildlife sightings; and
WHEREAS, There are many opportunities to view the wildlife in
Pennsylvania with either special-interest groups or by going on
independent outings; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania provides a rich and unique variety of
ecosystems ranging from mountains to lakes, allowing
Pennsylvanians to experience nature in all its splendor;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 23
through 29, 2016, as "Explore PA Outdoors Week" in Pennsylvania.
