A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of October 17 through 23, 2016, as
"Pediatric Kidney Disease Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, There are currently 42 children in this Commonwealth
waiting for a kidney transplant; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, 36 children in this Commonwealth had a
life-saving kidney transplant; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, there were 55 dialysis patients in this
Commonwealth under 20 years of age; and
WHEREAS, Since 1988, 1,190 children in this Commonwealth have
had a life-saving kidney transplant; and
WHEREAS, The National Kidney Foundation and its regional
programs throughout this Commonwealth continue to research
pediatric kidney disease, provide information, aid those who
suffer from pediatric kidney disease and increase national
awareness of pediatric kidney disease; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 17
through 23, 2016, as "Pediatric Kidney Disease Awareness Week"

in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage the residents of this
Commonwealth to help increase public awareness of pediatric
kidney disease, acknowledge the impact pediatric kidney disease
has on patients and families and recognize the importance of
research for treatment.
