A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2016 as "Older Americans Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Older adults deserve recognition for their many
gifts and sacrifices on behalf of future generations; and
WHEREAS, Our nation has honored the legacies and ongoing
contributions of older Americans during the month of May each
year since 1963; and
WHEREAS, "Blaze a Trail," the theme of this year's
observance, emphasizes the ways in which older adults are
reinventing themselves through new work and new passions,
engaging their communities and blazing a trail of positive
impact on the lives of people of all ages; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 51st anniversary of the Older
Americans Act, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in
1965; and
WHEREAS, The Older Americans Act continues to provide
coordinated community social services, technical assistance,

funding and other resources for the benefit of older adults
nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Medical and technological innovations have promoted
greater longevity and social inclusion; and
WHEREAS, Home-based and community-based services have further
supported independent living; and
WHEREAS, The Senate celebrates the breadth of experience
among older adults and values their transition into new phases
of life; and
WHEREAS, The Senate is committed to helping older adults live
longer, healthier lives in the communities of their choice for
as long as possible; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of May 2016 as
"Older Americans Month" in Pennsylvania.
