Commonwealth's economy, accounting for 98.2% of businesses in a
wide variety of industries; and
WHEREAS, The top small business industries in this
Commonwealth include professional services, scientific and
technical services, retail trade and construction; and
WHEREAS, In the third quarter of 2015, this Commonwealth's
economy grew at an annual rate of 2.5%, which was faster than
the overall economic growth nationally of 1.9%; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth saw an increase of 36.7% in
minority ownership between 2007 and 2012; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses embody what is noteworthy about
America, namely that with determination and responsibility,
citizens can build a better life for themselves, their loved
ones and their communities; and
WHEREAS, For more than two centuries, small businesses in the
United States have been pillars of communities nationwide and
engines of a strong economy, and the innovation of American
entrepreneurs has sparked ideas that have changed the course of
history for the better; and
WHEREAS, The Senate salutes the dedicated entrepreneurs and
employees of small businesses and celebrates the ways in which
small businesses invigorate the economy of this Commonwealth;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 1 through
7, 2016, as "National Small Business Week" in Pennsylvania to
honor the far-reaching contributions of small businesses to the
economy of this Commonwealth.
