A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of January 9 through 16, 2016, as
"Pennsylvania Farm Show Week" in Pennsylvania in recognition
of the 100th Pennsylvania Farm Show: Our Commonwealth's Blue
Ribbon Experience.
WHEREAS, Agriculture is the cornerstone of Pennsylvania's
economy, with the National Agricultural Statistics Service
reporting more than 59,000 farm families generating nearly $8.3
billion in cash receipts in 2014 from farms alone; and
WHEREAS, Farms are using new technologies and practices to
increase efficiency, making it possible for each farmer to feed
155 people while meeting the demands of an increasingly quality-
conscious and environmentally conscious world; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's farm families and agribusinesses lead
the way in the production of agricultural commodities, including
apples, chickens, Christmas trees, eggs, grapes, hardwoods,
milk, mushrooms, oats, peaches, pears, pumpkins and trout, and
farmers throughout this Commonwealth have established an
outstanding reputation as leading suppliers of these quality

products throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, Many farms and other agribusinesses are members of
PA Preferred', the official branding program of Pennsylvania's
diverse agricultural commodities that helps farmers and
processors market their products and helps consumers locate
products made or grown in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Many of this Commonwealth's agricultural families
are preparing the way for their operations to remain viable in
perpetuity by establishing new markets, preserving valuable
farmland for future agricultural production, being good stewards
of the land and engaging the next generation of
agriculturalists; and
WHEREAS, The year 2016 marks the 100th Pennsylvania Farm
Show, the nation's largest agricultural event, featuring 6,000
animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 300 commercial
exhibitors; and
WHEREAS, What began in 1917 as a three-day exhibition for
farmers attending agricultural meetings has grown into a show
for agriculturists from all walks of life and from communities
of all sizes; and
WHEREAS, The exhibition has expanded its focus to educate
more than a half-million visitors during an eight-day event
about Pennsylvania's agriculture industry and to bridge the gap
between farm and fork while continuing to showcase the best and
newest products of farm, home and shop; and
WHEREAS, The 100th Pennsylvania Farm Show: "Our
Commonwealth's Blue Ribbon Experience" weaves together the
collective experiences of Farm Show exhibitors, visitors and
volunteers over the century, celebrating the progress made in
agriculture and showcasing the bright future that is possible

through agriculture; and
WHEREAS, The 2016 Pennsylvania Farm Show continues the proud
tradition started 100 years ago, as our Commonwealth's premier
public showcase of our food, fiber and fuel system for all
Pennsylvanians and as an investment in the cornerstone of our
Commonwealth's economy and an integral component of its past,
present and future; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of January 9
through 16, 2016, as "Pennsylvania Farm Show Week" in
Pennsylvania in recognition of the 100th Pennsylvania Farm Show:
Our Commonwealth's Blue Ribbon Experience.
