A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of October 25 through 31, 2015, as "Pro
Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at
low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more
than 100,000 low-income clients each year, including
representation in 10,000 mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000
domestic violence cases; and
WHEREAS, The seventh annual "National Pro Bono Week" will be
celebrated at the end of October 2015; and
WHEREAS, "National Pro Bono Week" is an opportunity to
highlight the differences lawyers make in their communities, to
recruit and train more pro bono volunteers and to acknowledge
the partnerships that form the basis for many of the private
bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is joining with the
American Bar Association to sponsor this October's annual

"National Pro Bono Week" celebration; and
WHEREAS, "National Pro Bono Week" provides numerous
opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys
do for the neediest among us; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating "National
Pro Bono Week", with what have become annual events at many
sites across this Commonwealth, from already scheduled events
such as the Berks County Bar Association's Pro Bono Celebration
on October 27, 2015, in Reading and the Pennsylvania Bar
Association's Statewide Jeans for Justice initiative on Friday,
October 30, 2015, to many more events still in planning;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of October 25
through 31, 2015, as "Pro Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.
