WHEREAS, A brain aneurysm is often discovered when it
ruptures and causes a subarachnoid hemorrhage; and
WHEREAS, A subarachnoid hemorrhage can lead to brain damage,
hydrocephalus, stroke and death; and
WHEREAS, Each year, more than 30,000 people in the United
States suffer from ruptured brain aneurysms and 40% of these
people die as a result; and
WHEREAS, Annually, between 3,000 and 4,500 people in the
United States with ruptured brain aneurysms die before reaching
the hospital; and
WHEREAS, A number of advancements have been made in recent
years regarding the detection of aneurysms, including the
computerized tomography (CT) scan, the magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) test and the cerebral arteriogram and early
detection can save lives; and
WHEREAS, Various research studies are currently being
conducted in the United States in order to better understand,
prevent and treat brain aneurysms; and
WHEREAS, Brain aneurysm survivors, their families and
friends, along with families and friends who lost a loved one to
a brain aneurysm, are working tirelessly across this
Commonwealth to raise funding for those research studies; and
WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Brain Aneurysm Run/Walk has been
established as a new resource for those efforts; and
WHEREAS, The 2nd annual event for the Pittsburgh Brain
Aneurysm Run/Walk will be held at Pittsburgh's Southside Trail
on Saturday, September 26, 2015; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize, commend and support the
organizers, volunteers and participants and wish them great
