A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2015, as "Nurses Week"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is the
professional association for nurses in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1903, the Pennsylvania State Nurses
Association has been essential in advocating, leading, educating
and connecting nurses to improve health for patients in this
Commonwealth for more than 112 years; and
WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12
each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;
and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 218,000 registered nurses,
including approximately 55,000 licensed practical nurses and
12,000 advanced practice registered nurses which makes nursing
the largest licensed health care profession in this
Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association is working
diligently to chart a new course for a healthy Commonwealth that
relies on increasing the delivery of nursing care through
primary and preventative health care; and
WHEREAS, The care provided by the nurses of this Commonwealth
is a paramount component of Pennsylvania's health care delivery
system; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 6 through
May 12, 2015, as "Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate join with the Pennsylvania State
Nurses Association and other nursing organizations in
recognizing the heroic service of Pennsylvania's nurses and the
overall importance of quality nursing care.
