A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 2 through 10, 2015, as "National
Travel and Tourism Week" and May 5, 2015, as "Tourism Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, National Travel and Tourism Week and Tourism Day
are designed to draw attention to and recognize the economic,
social and cultural impacts of travel and tourism in this
Commonwealth and the United States; and
WHEREAS, National Travel and Tourism Week was established in
1983 when the Congress of the United States passed a joint
resolution designating a week in May 1984 as National Travel and
Tourism Week and President Ronald Reagan signed a Presidential
Proclamation urging citizens to observe the week with
appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
WHEREAS, Travel and tourism consistently rank as one of the
greatest generators of economic activity and jobs for this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Tourism is a vital industry in this Commonwealth,

contributing approximately $39.2 billion in visitor spending and
generating more than $4.1 billion in State and local taxes in
2013; and
WHEREAS, One out of every 15.3 workers in this Commonwealth
is supported by travel and tourism accounting for 478,888 direct
and indirect jobs, equivalent to 6.5% of the State's total
employment; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth hosted nearly 192.9 million
domestic and international travelers for business and leisure in
2013; and
WHEREAS, Travel and tourism in this Commonwealth allow
Pennsylvanians and other travelers to see the spectacular
natural scenery, world-class cities, historic towns, dozens of
museums and award-winning entertainment and cultural events this
Commonwealth has to offer; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 2 through
10, 2015, as "National Travel and Tourism Week" and May 5, 2015,
as "Tourism Day" in Pennsylvania.
