AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2Consolidated Statutes, further providing for licenses.

3The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4hereby enacts as follows:

5Section 1. Section 6109(c) and (f)(2) of Title 18 of the
6Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes are amended to read:

7§ 6109. Licenses.

9(c) Form of application and content.--The initial
10application and renewal application for a license to carry a
11firearm shall be uniform throughout this Commonwealth and shall
12be on [a form] forms prescribed by the Pennsylvania State
13Police. The [form] forms may contain provisions, not exceeding
14one page, to assure compliance with this section. Issuing
15authorities shall use only the application [form] forms
16prescribed by the Pennsylvania State Police. One of the
17following reasons for obtaining a firearm license shall be set
18forth in the application: self-defense, employment, hunting and

1fishing, target shooting, gun collecting or another proper
2reason. The application [form] forms shall be dated and signed
3by the applicant and shall contain the following statement:

4I have never been convicted of a crime that prohibits me
5from possessing or acquiring a firearm under Federal or
6State law. I am of sound mind and have never been
7committed to a mental institution. I hereby certify that
8the statements contained herein are true and correct to
9the best of my knowledge and belief. I understand that,
10if I knowingly make any false statements herein, I am
11subject to penalties prescribed by law. I authorize the
12sheriff, or his designee, or, in the case of first class
13cities, the chief or head of the police department, or
14his designee, to inspect only those records or documents
15relevant to information required for this application. If
16I am issued a license and knowingly become ineligible to
17legally possess or acquire firearms, I will promptly
18notify the sheriff of the county in which I reside or, if
19I reside in a city of the first class, the chief of
20police of that city.

22(f) Term of license.--

24(2) At least 60 days prior to the expiration of each
25license, the issuing sheriff shall send to the licensee an
26application for renewal of license[.], which shall be on a 
27form similar to the initial application for a license to 
28carry a firearm except that it shall not contain a 
29requirement to list two references. Failure to receive a
30renewal application shall not relieve a licensee from the

1responsibility to renew the license.

3Section 2. This act shall take effect in 90 days.
