A RESOLUTION

 

1Memorializing the Congress of the United States to support
2Congressman Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania's efforts to pass
3H.R. 979, known as the Forest Products Fairness Act of 2013,
4and urging each member of Congress from Pennsylvania to
5support his efforts.

6WHEREAS, The Forest Products Fairness Act of 2013 proposes to
7include forest products in the definition of "biobased product,"
8as well as the USDA Biobased Markets Program; and

9WHEREAS, Including forest products in the USDA Biobased
10Markets Program will provide the opportunity for forest products
11to receive increased consumer attention and Federal Government
12procurement preference; and

13WHEREAS, Forestry is a vital industry in this Commonwealth;
14and

15WHEREAS, The timber and forest products industry provides
16more than 100,000 jobs in Pennsylvania; and

17WHEREAS, The industry produces more than $5 billion worth of
18products annually; and

1WHEREAS, Pennsylvania hardwood products are exported around
2the globe and are famous for their beauty and quality; and

3WHEREAS, Forestry material, a biobased product, can be
4utilized for recycling purposes; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
6Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize Congress to support
7Congressman Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania's efforts to add to
8the Farm Bill or his efforts to introduce new legislation known
9as the Forest Products Fairness Act of 2013; and be it further

10RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
11the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
12member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
