| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the month of November 2011 as "King James Bible |
2 | Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The King James Version of the Bible was the first |
4 | English language Bible to be published in the United States; and |
5 | WHEREAS, The King James Bible, also called the Authorized |
6 | Version, has made a unique contribution in shaping the English |
7 | language, including hundreds of common everyday expressions; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The language of the King James Bible has entered |
9 | into the very culture of the United States through a myriad of |
10 | poetry, speeches, sermons, music, songs and literature; and |
11 | WHEREAS, The teachings of the Scriptures, particularly read |
12 | from the King James Scriptures, have inspired concepts of civil |
13 | government contained in our founding documents and subsequent |
14 | laws; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Public officials at all levels of governments, |

1 | including presidents, have taken their oaths of office with the |
2 | King James Bible; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Many national leaders have paid tribute to the |
4 | surpassing influence of the Bible in the United States |
5 | development, among them the words of Democratic President Andrew |
6 | Jackson, calling it "the rock upon which our republic rests"; |
7 | and |
8 | WHEREAS, Republican President Ronald Reagan said of the King |
9 | James Bible, "Indeed, it is an incontrovertible fact that all |
10 | the complex and horrendous questions confronting us at home and |
11 | worldwide have their answer in that single book"; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In the history of the United States, the King James |
13 | Bible has played a significant role in the education of |
14 | countless individuals, families and societies; and |
15 | WHEREAS, The King James Bible, the most printed and widely |
16 | distributed work in history, is now in its 400th year of |
17 | publication; and |
18 | WHEREAS, In 2011, the 400th anniversary of publishing the |
19 | King James Bible will be celebrated in churches, at public |
20 | events and conferences with further research, discussions, |
21 | speeches and sermons; and |
22 | WHEREAS, The King James Bible's relevance and contributions |
23 | continue to formatively influence the United States; therefore |
24 | be it |
25 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
26 | 400th anniversary of the Authorized King James Version of the |
27 | Bible being published and its lasting influence on countless |
28 | families, individuals and institutions in the United States and |
29 | express its gratitude for the influence it has bestowed upon the |
30 | United States; and be it further |

2 | month of November 2011 as "King James Bible Heritage Month" in |
3 | Pennsylvania. |
