A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of November 8 through 14, 2009, as

2

"Perioperative Nurse Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Surgery today is highly technical, sophisticated and

4

exacting; and

5

WHEREAS, The perioperative registered nurse is highly skilled

6

in providing nursing care and managing the perioperative

7

environment that surgical patients need for their mind, body and

8

spirit; and

9

WHEREAS, The surgical patients and their families are

10

experiencing a major event in their lives, and the perioperative

11

registered nurse is an expert in allaying the patient's fears,

12

preparing the patient for what will happen during surgery,

13

providing family support and discussing how the patient will

14

feel during the entire surgical experience; and

15

WHEREAS, Perioperative registered nurses have a long

16

tradition of working toward patient safety and improving the

quality of patient care; and

2

WHEREAS, Surgical patients rely on the skills, knowledge and

3

expertise of perioperative registered nurses; and

4

WHEREAS, The Association for perioperative Registered Nurses

5

is celebrating the week of November 8 through 14, 2009, as

6

"Perioperative Nurse Week" to recognize the nation's

7

perioperative registered nurses who care for patients before,

8

during and after surgery; therefore be it

9

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of November 8

10

through 14, 2009, as "Perioperative Nurse Week" in Pennsylvania

11

in appreciation of the specialized skills and dedicated work of

12

those health care professionals to promote patient safety in

13

Pennsylvania operating rooms.
