                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for a special registration plate for
     3     veterans and members of United States military airborne units
     4     and for military airborne parachutist and glider units.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes is amended by adding sections to read:
     9  § 1366.  Special plates for United States military airborne
    10             units.
    11     (a)  General rule.--Upon application of any person who is a
    12  veteran of or a member of a United States military airborne
    13  unit, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in addition to
    14  the annual registration fee and by such documentation as the
    15  department shall require, the department shall issue to the
    16  person a special registration plate designating the vehicle so
    17  licensed as belonging to a person who is a veteran of or a

     1  member of a United States military airborne unit. The special
     2  registration plate may be used only on a passenger car or truck
     3  with a registered gross weight of not more than 9,000 pounds.
     4     (b)  Plate details.--The special registration plate shall
     5  display a set of jump wings and glider wings along with the
     6  letters "ABN" followed by a series of five digits. The first two
     7  or three digits of the five-digit series will denote the number
     8  of the division under which the person served.
     9  § 1367.  Special plates for veterans of and members of all
    10             military airborne parachutist and glider units.
    11     (a)  General rule.--Upon application of any person who is a
    12  veteran of or a member of a military airborne parachutist or
    13  glider unit, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in
    14  addition to the annual registration fee and by such
    15  documentation as the department may require, the department
    16  shall issue to the person a special registration plate
    17  designating the vehicle so licensed as belonging to a person who
    18  is a veteran of or a member of a military airborne parachutist
    19  or glider unit. The special registration plate may be used only
    20  on a passenger car or a truck with a registered gross weight of
    21  not more than 10,000 pounds.
    22     (b)  Plate specifications.--The plate shall have a set of
    23  jump wings and glider wings.
    24     (c)  Definition.--As used in this section, the term "veteran
    25  of or a member of a military airborne parachutist and glider
    26  unit" includes glider troopers, paratroopers, air assault
    27  troopers, Rangers, U.S. Army Special Forces, USMC Recon, U.S.
    28  Navy Seals, U.S. Air Force Special Operations, Troop Carrier
    29  Command, including glider pilots and the 160th SOAR, military
    30  personnel who satisfactorily completed the prescribed

     1  proficiency tests while assigned or attached to an airborne unit
     2  and any other military personnel determined by the department to
     3  be appropriately classified as a member of a United States
     4  military airborne parachutist or glider unit.
     5     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
