                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 4, 1937 (P.L.1595), entitled "An act
     2     relating to peace officers; providing for the qualifications
     3     and appointments of deputy sheriffs; regulating the manner of
     4     their selection and compensation; regulating the source of
     5     compensation for other peace officers; declaring void certain
     6     contracts inconsistent with the provisions hereof; providing
     7     penalties; and repealing inconsistent acts," reducing certain
     8     age requirements.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1. Clause (2) of section 1, act of June 4, 1937
    12  (P.L.1595), entitled "An act relating to peace officers;
    13  providing for the qualifications and appointments of deputy
    14  sheriffs; regulating the manner of their selection and
    15  compensation; regulating the source of compensation for other
    16  peace officers; declaring void certain contracts inconsistent
    17  with the provisions hereof; providing penalties; and repealing
    18  inconsistent acts," is amended to read:
    19     Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That,
    20     A sheriff may not appoint any person as a deputy unless he
    21  files with the prothonotaries, prior to the appointment of such


     1  person, the name and photograph of such person, together with an
     2  affidavit of such person setting forth the following:
     3     * * *
     4     (2) That he is a citizen of the United States, and [twenty-
     5  one] eighteen years of age or over.
