Subject: | Narcan in Recovery Houses - Heffley |
Due to the unfortunate overdose death of an individual in my legislative district who resided in a recovery house, I plan to introduce legislation addressing the use of Naloxone in recovery houses. Naloxone (sold under the brand name Narcan) is a medication used to block the effects of opioids, particularly in overdose situations. Law enforcement officers and first responders as well as many individuals living with or around a person addicted to opioids commonly carry this life saving medication and are trained to administer it. My legislation will mandate that recovery houses receiving public funding will be required to keep Naloxone on site as well as have trained individuals present to administer the medication properly. The result will be a decrease in the number of opioid related overdose deaths in recovery houses here in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
