MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution: Honoring the Life, Legacy and Contributions of American Singer, Songwriter and Musical Icon, the Late Prince Rogers Nelson

In the very near future, I intend to introduce a resolution honoring the life, legacy and contributions of the legendary American singer, songwriter, composer and musical icon Prince Rogers Nelson, also known simply as "Prince," who sadly passed away due to health complications on Thursday, April 21, 2016.

Although known primarily for his ethereal vocals and sensational stage performances, Prince was also a master instrumentalist. Making his musical debut in 1978, Prince would go on to achieve both national and international success in the 80’s and 90’s with his risqué and funk-infused sound.

While many of us can readily recall and recite word for word many of Prince’s mega hits such as “Little Red Corvette,” “Delirious,” “Purple Rain,” and “When Doves Cry,” he was also known as a prodigious recorder and composer and collaborated with other powerhouse artists such as Tom Jones, Chaka Khan, and Madonna, just to name a few. As evidenced by his extraordinary impact and influence upon fellow artists and fans alike, in 2004 Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which solidified his rightful place within the annals of the genre.

Up until the day of his untimely demise, Prince’s passion for creating music that both inspires and excites had not wane in the slightest. Regarded as a man who very much valued his privacy, it is important to remember that Prince’s impact upon the world extended beyond the parameters of music and entertainment. This fact borne itself out by way of his unpublicized philanthropic efforts, which included contributions to many worthwhile causes such as The City of Hope Foundation; The Edith Couey Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund; The Elevate Hope Foundation; The Elton John AIDS Foundation, The Goss-Michael Foundation; H.A.L.O.; The Jazz Foundation of America; and Urban Farming, just to name a few.

Therefore, I wish to take this opportunity to encourage all of my colleagues to please join me in honoring the life, legacy and contributions of the late Prince Rogers Nelson, a man who not only dramatically changed the musical landscape, but also positively revolutionized our societal landscape.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this resolution, please feel free to contact Ms. April James at 717-783-3822 or ajames@pahouse.net.
