MITCHELL, Joseph L., Jr., a Representative from Allegheny County; born in Ireland, March 15, 1841; attended, bookkeeping, Duff’s Business College; bookkeeper; elected, alderman, 17th Ward, Pittsburgh (1872-1876); school director; deputy mayor, Pittsburgh; deputy sheriff, Allegheny County; member, central board of education, Pittsburgh; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican to serve the 1877 and 1878 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1879 term; coal merchant; clerk, Commissioner’s office, Allegheny County; alderman, 17th Ward, Pittsburgh (1897-1903) died, August 11, 1903 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
