THORNTON, J. Russell, a Representative from Allegheny and Fayette Counties; born, June 6, 1844 in Brownsville, Fayette County, Pa.; attended, West Liberty Academy (now West Liberty University); attended, Monongahela Academy (now West Virginia University); farmer; stock raiser; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1874 and 1875 to represent Allegheny County; reelected to the House in 1892 to represent Fayette County; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1876, 1894); proprietor, Clinton House; died, January 18, 1918 in Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania; interred, Redstone Cemetery, Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
